He has taught a few such classes in recent years, and most of the attendees have taken and passed their FCC exams afterward.
The class will be held on two successive weekends in conference rooms at North Hawaii Community Hospital. The sessions will run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19, and Sunday, Oct. 27. The FCC exam will follow the last class, at 5 p.m. There is a $15 testing fee.
The exam is 35 multiple-choice questions, and the textbook contains all of the questions and answers, along with theoretical text to explain the radio physics behind the questions.
“The cost of radios has gone down dramatically in the last few years,” said spokeswoman April Lee. And having an amateur radio license may be vital for family safety during times of emergency.
